horse tack, show haltersMy son's birthday is around the corner and this year instead of buying him horse tack for his birthday, we decided to give him a really rugged, accurate watch to use when out horseback riding. This is his 17th birthday and we trust him to go riding alone or with a friend, but sometimes there is no cell phone service and we thought that a watch like this with an alarm in it would be a good way to make sure he knows what time it is. He loves horseback riding and really doesn't need any new horse tack at this time, but he sure can use a watch.

The one we selected has gotten excellent feedback and we both thought that the features were perfect for our son. It's the G-Shock Atomic Solar Watch. Model - GW500A-1V. It's a solar powered watch which my son will just love since he is as green as can be. He's always telling us how we should be employing more green technology at home and we do listen to him and have made strides in that direction. This watch is also digitally tuned to the atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado.

Like all kids, he loves all the high tech gadgets he can get so I know he'll also appreciate the different time zones he can display on this watch, too. He has a lot of Internet pals who live in different countries so now he won't have mentally calculate what time it is where they live. We found this rugged watch at Jewelry Tack Room located at www.jewelrytackroom.com, an interesting site for jewelry, watches, cameras, and MP3 players.

We did have some debate about whether or not to give him more horse tack or new show halters, but decided that the watch was the better gift this year. We'd like to see him find a part time job somewhere so he could buy his own horse tack. He would love to work at an equestrian facility and we don't live that far from dude ranches in the eastern outskirts of the Phoenix metro area. He is such a good rider and kids love him, so maybe he could give riding lessons or explain horse tack to novice riders.

If he does get a job at one of the equestrian facilities nearby, he will really need that watch more so than new horse tack to get to work on time and adhere to the schedules that the classes or chores will involve. I myself can't imagine a better job than being around horses all day long and helping people discover the beauty of this part of Phoenix and the horseback riding in the Superstition Mountains.
