I used to work with a friend whose daughter loved everything about horses. For the longest time, a horse was all she ever wanted. When her daughter finally realized that getting a horse wasn’t going to happen, she started working at a nearby stables to be near her beloved animals and to get a reduced rate on riding. My friend’s daughter worked hard from cleaning out the stalls, to keeping track of the horse tack and putting the horse halters and saddles where they should be. My friend thought she would eventually get tired of all the care that goes into keeping a horse, but she was very wrong. Eventually, she was there so often, she could just grab a horse halter and saddle and ride when she wanted. The horses took to her and she knew that a career in veterinary science was in her future. After high school, her daughter did attend an out-of-state college that had a great vet program. She is now too busy to spend all the time she used to at a stables, but she does ride whenever she can.
