equestrian tack, horse tackThe traditional way of posting some lame signs made with cardboard and a felt pen that says, “Garage Sale This Way” or” Saturday Garage Sale at [address]” is not the best marketing technique for drawing a big crowd. I have helped my mom and neighbors with garage sales enough to know that no one sells everything placed they’d like to many times because of the amount of foot traffic. Then at some point when the afternoon is getting late, the person selling at the garage sale begins giving good stuff away for next to nothing or free just because they don’t want to pack it back away into storage.

My friend has been working for an equestrian center for as long as I’ve known her. Her family owns horses and she is a riding enthusiast. Over the years, she has stockpiled equestrian tack, Conchos, saddles and horse halters that people who boarded their horse at the equestrian left or gave away. She is simply overloaded with the stuff in her garage and needs to get rid of it. She already donated some of it to people at the equestrian center and now wants to make a little bit of cash selling it. She asked if I’d help her make flyers to staple around the equestrian center and local sidewalk poles. There is a really big horse culture around where she works so with the right advertising we are hoping to have most of her equestrian tack sold by the time the sale ends.

She used a nice SLR camera and took pictures of every piece of horse tack behind great lighting in a barn. I loaded those pictures onto my computer and then created flyers highlighting the nicest pieces, the sale location, date, and an emphasis on the savings. It looks really good. I actually made a few different flyers displaying different pieces of equestrian tack. The only problem is I don’t have photo quality paper. Just the normal stuff.

This isn’t that big of a deal because my friend showed me a retailer she uses called the Jewelry Tack Room at http://www.jewelrytackroom.com/. There I found the Canon Photo Paper Plus - 4" x 6' - Semi Gloss - 50 x Sheet seen in the picture above. Now we are set for this equestrian tack sale. Hopefully, the nice flyers help draw a crowd. Every marketing class I’ve ever taken says that going that extra mile for eye-catching advertising counts. We will find out.
