horse tack, conchosThe best part about going home past seeing the family is the refreshing days out amongst the trees and wide open spaces. I grew up in a forested part of the country that even in the summer sees rain once in awhile. People who live there complain about the rain but from my perspective after living in two hot climates of California and Arizona for the past 6 years, the precipitation is appreciated. While home, I went over to a friend’s house who has a couple of horses in a small pasture to the front of their house. It had been at least a year since I saw him last.

He was one of those guys befriended in high school that I’ll always get along with even though we don’t see each other often. There are always those people who never leave the small town that birthed them. Right after high school, he started learning his father’s electrical trade and bought a house literally down the road from his parents. While I was going to college, he was doing renovations on his own place. Pretty insane. Turns out quality electricians make bank. Anyway, I came over to his place while back home. He was out in the pasture cleaning up horse poop, filing horse tack, filling the troughs with water and laying down hay. The clouds were out and sky looked grey. It wasn’t raining though.

I gladly jumped over the fence to come help. I never get to do stuff like this in the city. He had a SANGEAN U3R DIGITAL AM/FM WATER-RESISTANT UTILITY RADIO WITH ALARM featured above, in the dirt next to him playing Stranglehold by Ted Nugent. Talk about a song with an amazing guitar solo. We caught up while I helped spread hay and collected assorted conchos. The clouds finally popped. A light sprinkle lifted my eyes to the sky and then to the radio. He assured me the radio would survive a dunk in the pool. Or hot tub which he tried one night, I guess. After hearing that, I asked him where he bought it because it would be cool to bring on camping or fishing trips. Jewelry Tack Room at http://www.jewelrytackroom.com had it and for an affordable price as I found out later on the computer.

We did have to run all the horse tack, show halters and conchos lying around the pasture inot the barn when it started raining. Their barn had spots for equestrian tack and horse halters. Not long after we moved everything inside, the rain stopped. What a day.
