Horse Tack Basics |

When I was thirteen years old I took horse back riding lessons at an equestrian ranch near my home. It was located close enough to our residence that I could walk there by myself. In those days it was not a problem for a young adult to make those small journeys.
I enjoyed horseback riding and learned about horse tack in the process. The horses were brought to the students with halters, bridles, blankets and saddles in place. After a student rode for awhile and expressed an interest in the care of a horse the education went further.
I was one of those students. I was introduced to the horse tack room where all those halters, bridles, blankets and saddles were stored along with many other horse related tools. I learned to clean out horse hoofs and eventually got my first job at that equestrian ranch.
My job included setting up horses for lessons with all the required horse tack. Then to take all the horse tack off and put it away in the proper manner and location after the lessons. In return I was able to ride for free. It was a great deal for a thirteen year old horse fanatic! |
